三重県の伝統工芸である「伊勢型紙」は、着物や浴衣、手ぬぐいなどの文様を染める際に用いられ、鈴鹿市白子、寺家、江島地方を中心に生産されています。江戸時代に同地が紀州藩領となって以降、型紙販売商人が全国を行商する特権が認められたことから、伊勢型紙は東北から九州までその名を轟かせました。この映像では、伊勢型紙の代表的な技法とともに型紙を用いた江戸小紋の染色工程を紹介します。三重県立美術館では、開館30周年記念として2012年8月28日（火）～10月14日（日）に型紙とジャポニスムに焦点をあてた「KATAGAMI Style」展と、型紙をめぐる歴史と展開を紹介する「極小の宇宙」展を開催しました。
